The Sanitarian inspects all of the facilities that are licensed through the Food and Consumer Safety Section of the Department of Public Health and Human Services. This includes all food service and food manufacturing establishments such as restaurants, grocery stores, bars, and grain packaging businesses. Inspections are usually done twice a year but low risk facilities may only be inspected once a year. The Sanitarian also inspects all public accommodations , trailer courts, RV parks, swimming pools, licensed day cares and the Head Start food program. Even though the schools food services program is not licensed, these facilities are also inspected. Other responsibilities include:
